Professor Barbara A. Maxwell Memorial Nursing Scholarship

It is with much love and great pride that the family of Barbara Maxwell has established this scholarship in her memory. Barbara passed away on May 11, 2010 of ovarian cancer. She fought a courageous battle against this deadly disease, never once losing her positive attitude while remaining supportive and inspirational to both her family and the hospital staff at her bedside. Barbara was a graduate of SUNY Ulster and earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Nursing from SUNY New Paltz as well as a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Russell Sage College. Her desire was to educate others in the profession she loved so dearly and to instill in her students the true meaning of Nursing: kindness, compassion, integrity, knowledge and the desire to provide the best nursing care to patients. She touched numerous lives during her 31 years as a nurse in the community, including her 26 years teaching. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, total compassion and kindness, extensive knowledge and the ability to find the time to help anyone in need. Her legacy will live on in the students she taught and the patients she nursed. This scholarship is being offered to a returning Nursing student who demonstrates the qualifications of an exceptional nurse: compassion, integrity and professionalism, coupled with a strong academic standing and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
