Ron Marquette Writers Scholarship
Ron Marquette served as Coordinator of Community Relations and Special Events at SUNY Ulster from 2006 until his untimely passing in January 2013. He was a Renaissance Man, whose career successes included serving as Executive Artistic Director of Kingston’s Broadway Theater, as Founding Artistic Director of Shadowland Theater, in Ellenville, and as an award-winning stage director and playwright. He was a professor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC and Associate Professor and Chairman of Theater Arts at Adirondack Community College, in Glen Falls. He also served as an Instructor of Theater Arts at SUNY New Paltz, where he directed student productions, and as Adjunct Faculty at SUNY Ulster. His commitment to civic engagement knew no bounds. He was elected two terms as Chairman of the Ulster County Development Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce of Ulster County, the Hudson Valley Aids Auction, the Ulster County Arts Council and he served as a member of civic boards and commissions too numerous to mention. Ron was a tireless worker for the good of others and a presence so delightful and observant that his advice was sought out by students and campus
community members alike. It was a touching reminder of his personal and professional generosity that as one of his last requests, he established a fund that would support student writers with scholarship assistance. Est. 2013
