Margaret and Robert Markes Memorial Scholarship

Both Margaret and Robert Markes had long and dedicated careers in education. Mrs. Markes attended New York State College for Teachers at Albany, and was a Teacher’s Aide in the Kingston City School District for several years after raising five children. Dr. Markes received his Bachelor’s from Union College in Schenectady, his Master’s degree from SUNY New Paltz, and a Doctorate in Education from New York University. He taught history at Middletown High School, was Assistant Principal at J. Watson Bailey Junior High and Assistant Superintendent of the Kingston City School District. During his tenure at SUNY Ulster from 1968-1985, Dr. Markes held the positions of Dean of Students, and Vice President & Dean of Faculty. Their family has established this scholarship to honor their parents and to acknowledge their commitment to education. This scholarship will be given to a full-time or part-time graduating and transferring student who is pursuing a course of study or planning a career in education or nursing. Est. 2014
